Spurs FC and Mavericks SC Agree to Merge
Berkeley, CA (May 9, 2022): The Board of Directors from both Spurs FC and Mavericks SC, the two top clubs serving Berkeley, El Cerrito, Albany, Richmond, San Pablo, and the surrounding areas, have reached agreement on the material terms to merge these two historic organizations into one strong club with a new identity and logo while retaining our shared core values. The formal merger agreement will be prepared and signed over the next several months. The two clubs have formed a six-person Merger Committee that is meeting regularly to outline the planned structure for the merged club that will commence play beginning with the 2023-24 season.
Merging the two organizations will create a stronger platform to train our players to compete locally, regionally and nationally. Coming together will create 40-50 competitive teams supporting over 1000 players, along with over 500 players in our Grassroots programming. While strengthening the coaching and support staff, the new merged club will continue to serve players 2-18 years old, compete in NorCal Premier Soccer and retain its NPL status for the boys’ and girls’ programs, with aspirations of joining other elite leagues.
The goal for this new merged club is to begin operations for the 2023-24 season, with our first competitive tryouts taking place in May and June of 2023.
We greatly value our respective memberships and welcome feedback on how best to implement the merger. Thank you for your continued support. We remain player-centered and believe this merger will benefit our players and community.
Best Regards,
Board of Directors
